You need a five-letter word that fits a specific pattern - maybe for a crossword, a word game, or a creative writing block. This tool lets you filter by known letters, excluded letters, start/end characters, and exact positions. No fluff, just a clean list of matching words.
Filter by known positions
If you know the second letter is A and the last is E, enter those into the position boxes. The finder will show only words matching that pattern. You can fill in as many positions as you know.
Include or exclude letters
Have a set of letters that must appear? Add them to the “contains” field. Want to rule out certain letters? Add them to “excludes.” This is useful when you have a rack of tiles in Scrabble or Words With Friends.
Start and end filters
Need a word that starts with “ST” or ends with “ING”? Use the starts-with and ends-with fields. These work together with other filters, so you can narrow down fast.
Copy the list
Once you have your results, click the copy button to copy the visible list. Paste it into your game, document, or notes. No ads, no distractions.
Why this is not a solver
This is a word finder, not a puzzle solver. It doesn’t guess the best move or rank words by strategy. It simply returns all valid five-letter words that match your criteria. Use it when you want to explore possibilities, not when you need a single answer.
Wordle-style example
After a guess like CRANE, enter confirmed green letters in the pattern, put yellow letters in contains, and put gray letters in exclude. Do not judge the list until all three signals are entered.
Before your next guess
Before you use a candidate as your next guess, compare it against every clue from previous guesses. A word that fits the length can still be wrong if it reuses a gray letter or puts a yellow letter back in the same position.
